OLD SHIT: The Excel - Brilliant late 70s Power Pop

According to Bored Teenagers they were originally called X.L. They formed in 1976, split up and then reformed in 1978 as The Excel.  They had a brief stint on Polydor and called it quits in the early 80s.  During their tenure as a band they put out 6 songs (I think) and they're all pretty fantastic.  Its all fast, tight power-pop perfection that's as tough as it is sugary sweet and every bit as good as anything else I've heard from the era (Shoes, The Toms, The Zeros, etc).  Why its taken me this long to hear about this band I'm not sure, but fuuuuck...this shit is rad.  It seems like these discs are pretty difficult to snag, but keep your eyes peeled on discogs and/or ebay and you might get lucky.

REVIEW: Mujeres - Lose Control b/w I Wonder 7" (Digestation, Galgo Diamante)

Barcelona's Mujeres are back with another solid 7" out on Digestation Records (AUS) and Galgo Diamante (ESP).  Love these dudes!  Side A is a tight ripper that moves like a speeding motorcycle (of your heart) and the flip side cools things off with a lumbering rock n' roll ballad.  A seriously great record by a band that makes up for their lack of prolificness (according to their bandcamp this is their 3rd release in three years) with calculated rock n' roll perfection.  Extra points awarded for cool/tasteful cover art.  Get it here.

REVIEW: Lawn Chair Records Compilation Vol. 1 (Lawn Chair)

Ugh...been dragging so much ass lately dealing with my own bullshit, but I finally sat down and checked out some new music.  This new comp by Minneapolis's Lawn Chair Records stood out.  First of all its got some familiar names synonymous with DIY quality; Slushy, Frankie Teardrop and Love Cop to name a few.  While all 19 tracks of this compilation are not yet available for public perusal the two that have been made available for streaming on the bandcamp release page (by Minneapolis's Narco States and Japan's Boys Age) are rad enough to warrant a WPOM review.  Can't wait to hear the rest.  Get it here.
